Hugo Capablanca is one of Berlin’s most exquisite Djs and a key figure in the underground scene. Label founder of the cult record imprint Discos Capablanca, and the man behind boogie disco meca Bananamania, he’s also the latest addition to label-of-the-moment Cómeme (run by Matias Aguayo).
His debut Ep 12” for Gomma, the flamenco odyssey “No Hay Ritmo” became instant success making it to prestigious lists like VILLAGE VOICE BEST OF 2011 and being played all around the World, and it’s very recent continuation “Ácido!” (Gomma, 2012) it’s already being praised as one of the best psychedelic dance releases of the Year.

Capablanca collaborates often with the Fashion industry and besides being common appearance in specialized magazines, has also developed exclusive music work for icons like KOSTAS MURKUDIS and WOOD WOOD, and hot newcomers like DSTM.
Hugo started as resident of legendary Berlin club Rio a few years ago and since then has been playing with a longstanding reputation worldwide (he often plays in NY, Paris, L.A, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, London, Shanghai…).
His style is extremely original and eclectic with a predilection for vintage sounds with a fresh twist; something in between Disco-rock, proto-electronics, leftfield synth wavey stuff and chi-house sounding fresh.

“Hugo is his own Universe, he is unique; he reminds me of Ron Hardy in that sense” said a fan and a friend TRAXX. Capablanca’s next releases will a new EP with his psychedelic disco alter ego Los Massieras (together with a member from Acid Washed) and an LP versioning Kenneth Angeŕs Lucifer Rising with his improv megaband Thee Psychogeographical Ensemble (together with members from Air and LCD Soundsystem).
