The
Project Last year we were approached to rework some songs from the legendary
Casablanca Records catalogue. Of course we said yes. So
Moullinex, Telonius, Munk and
The Phenomenal Handclap Band did four new interpretations of classic tracks by Donna Summer & Giorgio Moroder, Skatt Brothers, Stephanie Mills and from the Flashdance soundtrack! For the project we
needed a very special vocalist. There was only one who has the right
understanding of history, the perfect dirty approach and enough soul: Our old
friend PEACHES. And she was totally enthusiastic about that.
We were also lucky because Giorgio Moroder's old production partner and Donna
Summer producer Harold Faltermeyer heard from the project and
loved the new versions. He joined the jams and played some keyboards.
History The main reason why Gomma was chosen to do this project was because Gomma Records originally is from Munich. And Casablanca Records' fame started with
that sound called Munich Disco. The first big artists on Casablanca were Giorgio Moroder and Donna Summer. With Summer's "I Feel Love" and Moroder's Chase the
sound of dance and popmusic had been changed for ever. Those were the first
tracks using machine beats and complete synth-sounds and reaching the No.1
position in the US pop charts. "Chase" won an Oscar for best soundtrack
(Midnight Express). After these releases the whole world was dancing to the
"Disco Sound of Munich" for a few years. Bands like The Rolling Stones and Queen
went to Munich to record their albums and get a touch of that sound. Yes:
Another One Bites The Dust and Miss You were a result of that
Munich sound production.
Remix contest
For
this huge project Gomma made a cooperation with their friends at Burn
Studios / Audiotool. The great online music production tool.
Audiotool will get the stems of all 4 tracks in January for 6
weeks.
All the kids in the Audiotool community will have the chance to create
their own
remixes. Gomma will release the best remixes with a subsequent Remix
EP.
