Franz Ferdinand Solo Project: Box Codax “Hellabuster” (CD)

Here it comes: Box Codax. The solo project of Nick McCarthy – man on the guitar in Franz Ferdinand. The NME and many others already raved about this new album that was also partly produced by Metronomy: One of the most extravagant and colorful Rock/Folk albums of these days. Imagine Zappa in the studio with Arcade Fire and Roy Orbison.

In fact Box Codax is a band consisting of 3 members: Nick McCarthy and his longtime friends: poet and singer Alex Ragnew and Nick’s wife Manuela Gernedel. It’s a family record. It starts with some raw rock’n rolly disco and ends in the most beatiful melancholic ballads you can imagine. Aditional mixing, drum programming and other things by legendary ACDC engineer Mike Fraser and Modica & Imbery from Gomma.

Golden Bug & Dakar – Magia Potagia EP (Maxi)

Golden-Bug_Magia_Potagia

Golden Bug is demand right now: A-Trak is a huge fan and asked him for a remix recently. Bang Gang and Kitsune also just wanted remixes of him. Golden Bug – man from Paris. Living in Barcelona – has a unique sound. Hot, catchy Partytools. Somewhere between the funk of Mr. Oizo. The Sunburst rock of Tale Impala and some Ethnovibes of forgotten asian LSD Hippies.

Finally he finished a new EP: Magia Potagia feat. Dakar from Berlin.

This EP rocks. And: Check also the videos: Made by a guy who owns the rights for a couple of completely weird Spanish B-movies from the 70ies. Horror, vampire, science fiction. He edited this totally absurd stuff and created a couple of videos for the new Golden Bug tracks that are…. maaaaaad.

GOMMA153 Box Codax cover

Release: 11 March 2011
Cat#: Gomma 153

As you might know we always have been big Franz Ferdinand fans here at Gomma. So you can imagine how happy we were when Nick McCarthy, mastermind and guitar man in FF asked us if we wanna release his solo project: Box Codax. We know him, because he already released the album of his early days’ band Kamerakino on our label 8 years ago.

So now after FF years it’s time for Box Codax, his band with his oldest friend Alex Ragnew and his wife Manuela Gernedel. And this is, sorry: an amazing album. It’s like a piece of theater. A Happening. 13 songs with 13 videos by English and German film artists. Here is the first single Hellabuster/Choco Pudding, co-produced by Metronomy.

Munk – Keep My Secret (Maxi)

Alan 1-final-1200x1200

Release: 11 February 2011
Cat#: Gomma DT 022

Yeah! Today the new Munk single will be released. “Keep My Secret” feat. Miss Pollyester (from Permanent Vacation) on the mic. Described by a journalist as sounding like “Feist meeting up with Caribou produced by some New York house legends like Masters at Work” – this is a teaser for the new Munk album “The Bird and the Beat” (to be released last week of February).

This sweety little song comes up with remixes by Welcome Stranger (Thomas from Rub n Tug), Jacques Renault from New York’s Runaway and Rory Phillips. We mailed out the tune a few days ago to DJ’s and the feedback is amazing: Breakbot, Tim Sweeney, Prins Thomas and many more are already playing it and hundreds of blogs around the world are talking about it already. Be ready for Munk the 3rd!
